April
fool’s day
April fool’s day is celebrate every year on the first day of April as a day when people play practical jokes and hoaxes on each other. the jokes and their victims are know as “April fool’s.” hoax stories may be reported by the press and other media on this say and explained on subsequent days. Popular since the 19 century the day is not a national holiday in any country but it is well know in Canada Europe Australia brazil and the United States.
In the
middle ages new year’s day was celebrate on lady day the feast of the
annunciation on 25 march in most of Europe the feasts octave was 1 April the
holiday may have originated in France as a part of the shift to celebrating new
year on 1 January a move formalized as part of the 1564 edict of the Roussillon
it may have appeared earlier in Chaucer but this is now generally discounted.
Another explanation
of the origins of April fools day was provide by Joseph Buskin a professor of
history at Boston university he explained that the practice began during the
reign of Constantine when a group of
court jesters and fools told the roman emperor that they could do.
This explanation
was brought to the publics attention in an associated press article printed by
many newspaper in 1983 there was only one catch buskin made the whole thing up.
It took a couple of weeks for the AP to realized that they’d been victims of an
April fools joke themselves.
